Mid-winter Stratospheric Warming Effects on Tropical Convection over the Indian Sector: Case Studies

چکیده
The present study investigates the impact of northern mid-winter major stratospheric warming on tropical convection over Indian region by examining five Mid-winter Major Stratospheric Warming (MSW) events 2003/04, 2005/06, 2008/09, 2012/13, and 2018/19. dynamical variables like temperature, wind components, Outgoing Longwave Radiation are utilized from ECMWF ERA-Interim Reanalysis NOAA site. Eliassen Palm (E-P) flux is used to visualize upward equator-ward propagation extratropical Planetary Waves (PWs) lower atmosphere their reach region. dominance PW forcing high low latitudes seen in all cases. Further, transfer energy modifies pattern author found depleted latitude band -15-20oN for MSW 2003/04 2018/19, with frequent changes during 2012/13 2005/06. On other hand, 2008/09 show enhanced entire 20oS-20oN. This work suggests that modification OLR depends energy, onset time, peak wind-reversed state MSW.

Stratospheric polar warming by ENSO in winter: A statistical study
[1] Applying Linear Discriminant Analysis on 47 years of NCEP stratospheric temperature data from 1959 to 2005, we find that the warm-ENSO (‘‘El Niño’’) years are significantly warmer also in the stratosphere at the Northern Hemisphere polar and midlatitudes than the cold-ENSO (‘‘La Niña’’) years, during winter. Specifically, the zonal mean, DecemberFebruary mean, 10–50 hPa mean temperature, wh...

[1] The responses of tropical cyclone (TC) potential intensity (PI) and the associated environmental control parameters over the North Indian Ocean (NIO) to the doubled CO2 concentration are assessed based on the ensemble simulation from 15 coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) participated in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Forth Assessment Report (AR4). The results ...
متن کاملWinter Warming Effects on Yellow Perch Reproduction and Recruitment by:
Climate change is expected to affect fish populations worldwide through a number of mechanisms. To help understand consistent, failed Lake Erie yellow perch (Perca flavescens) year-classes following warm winters during 1975–2010, we used a combined laboratory-experimental and population-modeling approach. We hypothesized that climate change would negatively affect yellow perch by 1) increasing ...
متن کاملStratospheric variability contributed to and sustained the recent hiatus in Eurasian winter warming
The recent hiatus in global-mean surface temperature warming was characterized by a Eurasian winter cooling trend, and the cause(s) for this cooling is unclear. Here we show that the observed hiatus in Eurasian warming was associated with a recent trend toward weakened stratospheric polar vortices. Specifically, by calculating the change in Eurasian surface air temperature associated with a giv...
